Most states require that home inspectors are licensed.  Inspectors are held to perform inspections pursuant to specific Standards of Practice.

The Standards of Practice define the scope of work that the inspector will perform.  The Standards include:

• The areas of the home the home inspector is not required to inspect

• The detailed areas of the home the home inspector will cover

• Limitations, exceptions and exclusions

• A glossary of definitions
